Happy Wagon

In Jerry Spinelli’s 2000 novel Stargirl, the titular character keeps a happy wagon in her room. She takes a stone out of the happy wagon when something sad happens and puts one in when something happy happens. Always the optimist, Stargirl’s happy wagon reminds her that the good in life outweighs the bad.

Substituting stones for silver buttons, Happy Wagon takes Stargirl’s wagon digital, allowing users to drag and drop buttons into and out of the Happy Wagon depending on how they feel. By remembering the positions of the buttons each time the user closes the app, Happy Wagon keeps a running tally of the good and the bad allowing users to carry Stargirl’s happy wagon around on their Android devices.
